Griffin PowerDock 5: Charge your iOS Life [CES]

If you have a crap load of Apple iOS devices, you need a cool and convenient way of charging all of that awesomeness. Griffin has introduced the thing that you’ll need. It’s called the Griffin PowerDock 5 and it charges up to five devices at any one time, storing them away to save space on your desk or nightstand.

The Griffin PowerDock 5 is the “ultimate space-saving, countertop charging and storage solution,” or at least that’s what they’re calling it. You still have to have all the cords attached to it, which makes it less convenient than a wireless solution.  It contains five charging bays that are large enough to hold an iPad in a case. Put your device in the bay, plug in your cable, and BAM! you’re charging. The Griffin PowerDock 5 has five USB ports along the side of the device, which automatically sense the requirements of any device you plug in, then provide the optimal charge. Cool, right?

These sort of accessories will become more and more important as people get more mobile devices in their life. The problem of course, is that most people don’t have a ‘one ecosystem’ lifestyle. Most people have multiple devices from different ecosystems, whether it be Android and iOS or something more exotic like Windows Phone and Windows RT.

The accessories that truly interest me are the ones that will allow you to use them with whatever device you have, no matter the ecosystem. You could have an Android phone and an iPad (like I do) plugged in at the same time. That would be more awesome, to me, than a device that is limited to one manufacturer.
