No word on what version of Android it is using, but we are guessing it is still going to be Gingerbread, not Ice Cream Sandwich. Also there was no announcement of price or availability, but according to The Verge, it will be out in a matter of weeks.

Galaxy S III to Feature Quad-Core CPU, Arrive at MWC?

According to Korean website ETNews, the much anticipated device will debut at Mobile World Congress in February and feature a quad-core Exynos chipset. Additionally, the Galaxy S III will sport a Super AMOLED Plus 720p display, LTE connectivity, 2GB of RAM and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with TouchWiz. It has also been rumored that Samsung’s flagship device will feature 3D technology that will integrate the device with 3D television sets.

The Galaxy S line has been one of the most successful line of smartphones ever. Selling over 30 million devices since its launch in 2010, Samsung has overtaken Apple as the worlds number 1 device maker. It will be interesting to see what features Samsung brings to the next Galaxy S device. Also it will be interesting to see how big the screen is and which carriers will ruin it.

Of course, it will come with TouchWiz, which means it will be skinned to look like a cartoon. Thank goodness there are alternative launchers out there.

Samsung to Update Galaxy S II to Ice Cream Sandwich in Q1

According to The Verge, Samsung has committed to updating it’s line of Galaxy S II devices to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) sometime in Q1 of 2012. According to the site:

“Samsung plans to make the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note its first Android 4 devices in the first quarter of next year, the company has just announced. They headline a list of ICS-upgradeable devices that also includes the Galaxy S II LTE and Galaxy R smartphones plus the full line of current Android tablets: Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Tab 8.9, and Galaxy Tab 10.1.”

Of course this is just for the global version of the Galaxy S 2, seeing as the carriers in the US will have to do their own trashing of the OS before they can release it here. Which, of course, means that we won’t see it until October or sometime after the world ends in December. You know, optimistically.

Google Wallet Hacked to Run on Galaxy Nexus

Normally with a stock Google device, the carrier doesn’t do anything to interfere with the experience. That is the point of a Google experience device. This time however, it looks like Verizon has had their dirty hands on Google’s newest flagship phone, the Galaxy Nexus. The device, that launched in the US yesterday, does not have access to Google Wallet, which is Google’s entrance into the NFC payment space. This is because, apparently, Verizon does not want it to interfere with their own NFC offering ISIS.

Now, thanks to a T3kd reader, if you want Google Wallet, you can have it. To do so, simply follow the instructions found here (pasted below), and see the video at the bottom to see it in action.

Google Celebrating 10 Billion Android apps with 10 apps for 10¢ each

Google is celebrating the 10 billionth app download from the Android Market with a “10 Billion Promo” that offers 10 apps for $0.10 each, or 10p in the UK. There are some great apps offered today too!: SwiftKey X a replacement keyboard that has excellent word prediction, Minecraft a popular game, and SoundHound which is similar to Shazam. There are 7 others, but the one I found most interesting is Paper Camera, which takes pictures but with really cool overlays.

I picked up 8 of the 10 apps. I already had SwiftX, and there is a drawing on for kids on there that I didn’t need. Apparently there will be deals for the next 10 days, so lets hope every day’s deals are as good as todays.
