RIM Co-CEOs Step Down
Here’s something that we wanted to happen a long time ago. RIM CO-CEOs Jim Baalsillie and Mike Lazaridis have stepped down from their position, and COO Thorsten Heins is taking over as CEO. According to The Verge:
Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis have each stepped down from their co-CEO positions amid growing turmoil in the company and fears it won’t be able to rebound itself in time. They are replaced by one of RIM’s two COOs, Thorsten Heins. Additionally, another board member, Barbara Stymiest, has replaced them as chairwoman of RIM’s board. Lazaridis is now the vice chairman on the board and Balsillie also remains on the board, but “without any “operational role,” according to Bloomberg. Both will retain significant shares in the company.
The question is, of course, is it too late for RIM. On the podcast I have speculated that it is indeed to late, however, Ricky thinks there is still hope. Guess we will have to wait and see if the new man in charge brings about any sweeping changes, and if he does, how fast he makes those decisions.

Heins is a long-timne Siemens guy. Siemens stands for centralism and engineering efficiency. However it also comes with a bureaucracy that decides everything. The question will be, can this model work against innovators like Google and Apple?
